believed to rend Of course ... there were contemporary musicians that tried (sometimes not unsuccessful) to mingle the Bandoneon with a more “modern” upbeat pop tempo. But I trusted this was "just for fun" and did not take it too seriously. And then one very early morning, just as I was preparing to go to bed. Back in the Barrio. With the regular headache and sour feet as the last reminders of some exciting milonga I had lived the night before. Slowly slowly my mind came to senses again. Through the open window I recognized the usual cacophonies of street noises, elevator music, hip hop, latin, salsa and dance and far away lounge. And something that came to me like strings of Tango. Being in Argentina that sounded very familiar. The world was still as it was supposed to be and my mind dozed off again. However, it became clear to my tired sub consciousness that this strange mélange of noises and rhythms really mixed into an ecclectic unity. My hot shoes walked me out in the street again. Straight to the source of that beat. Some club where the party apparently just started. The door that opened, would change my life. It was tango feeling that blasted in my face. But then one step further: Neo Tango ! While I wondered if this truly was tango music, my torso and feet did scream YES YES YES and so did the tanguera that willingly found her way to my chest. Boleo, gancho ... !! I regret once more that PIAZZOLLA was born too early. If he would have wanted, he could have taken this so-called “electro tango” to unknown heights. Now we will have to see where it goes. Just for rounding up: this ranges from contemporary fusion to “tango clubbing” with a big “C”. Welcome to the real world. Tango is ready to go new places and boldly go where no man ever believed it could go. But
remind: it can feel from "modern beat tango" to "clubbing" and not traditional tango. And of
course : here is the present short list for the "starters".
On your way out, do not forget to get your copy of "Tango. Zero Hour". One day your feet will land again on the floor and you will honor ASTOR. The man who saved the world single handed with his music. And who probably made all of this possible thanks to his jazzy TANGO NUEVO . Anyway, your CLUBBIN' life will never be the same again.
